So the long summer evenings are a distant memory, no more barbecues and no more balmy strolls. The days are by now really short and the nights really really really long! The news is full of weather alerts, climate change and general doom and gloom.
No matter what the weather you can be guaranteed at least a balmy home with a Boru Stove. All the crazy weather need not affect your home life if you have a Boru as they run independently requiring no power, just fuel and a chimney (applies to dry models only) When the world comes to a complete standstill you can still maintain a comfortable warm home.
To help keep the heatwave going all through winter I’ve compiled a check list to keep the sunshine alive
Ensure your wood or fuel is stored in a dry place
Make sure the moisture content is below 20%
Check your chimney is clean and free of creosote, soot or tar build up
Check your chimney cap is secure
Cracked or damaged bricks can reduce the life of your stove if they’re damaged replace them
Make sure the door and glass ropes are intact and sealing the door. If the rope is hardened it needs to be changed.
Check your CO alarm every week, pick a day and check it that day every week
Check your smoke alarm
Clean out the ashes regularly
Burn your stove at a high temperature for at least 30 minutes every day. This will burn off any excess creosote or tar that may have built up
A stove is a great investment which offers a serious return, in the form of heat and of course the crackle and beauty of a real flame and yes they are still allowed in new builds and ultra efficient houses and will be far into the future. Stoves are evolving in line with demand for action on Climate change and are now focused on cleansing the fumes of harmful PM emissions. This is not the end but the beginning of a bright new warm future where we can frolic through the meadows of life picking daisies and eating butter scotch knowing that we are part of the solution and not the problem.
In a time of Fake News and False Information, keep it real, Keep it Boru!
